CHAPTER THREE BELIEVING YOUR EYES
|

My universe expands every day. Delving into new concepts mandated that I test the reality of
new principles. I question all my previous believes. One weekend, during my first year of
membership, my family and I attended the annual July 4 picnic on the slopes of Mount Rainier,
between Seattle and Tacoma, Washington. We were told Mount Rainier was a sacred
mountain. The Masters who used to dwell Mount Shasta in California had moved to this
mountain, as California was no longer a safe retreat because of the prophesied earthquake.
I borrowed equipment for the weekend, and my children and I headed for the slopes of
Rainier on Friday afternoon. It’s not easy to pitch a tent, but after a struggle, with help from
my friends, we did it for the first time. That night we built a huge bonfire, sang songs, and told
stories of phenomena and miracles. I wished I had experiences like those to share. They fed
my heart and soul. In the morning, we saw the mist rise to usher in a glorious day. That day we
hiked, barbecued and told more stories.
Rev. Rhinehart arrived on the mountain Sunday morning and greeted everyone. More than
one hundred people had gathered. Some of the men erected a makeshift cabinet for a
planned phenomenon séance (evoking spiritual manifestations). Blankets were gathered,
and poles were cut to hold them and create a four-sided enclosure. They located a chair for
the medium to sit inside the enclosure. The wind started blowing hard from the south, but the
preparations for the séance continued. This would be my first experience with phenomena in
full light.
In preparation for test conditions, Rev. Rhinehart took off his jacket, and two men
volunteered to search him. After taking water to hold in his mouth, his lips were taped, he
entered the cabinet, and his hands were tied to the chair. The wind flapped the blankets so
hard they had to be pinned together. We started to sing, and Rev. Rhinehart went into trance.
Susan, his cabinet guide, greeted us with a cherry voice and announced that the masters
were anxious to present some surprises for us before the wind got too bad.
She introduced Master Emil. He gave a short but inspirational lecture on the wonder of
America and the good Karma we shared because we were Americans. It made me glad to be
alive. Then Masters Americus and Immanuel described the destined future for the planet.
This is what I remember:
“Earth, in time, will lead the solar system of planets as the highest in consciousness and
intelligence. We will be accepted into the Inter-galactic League (leaders from the advanced
planets of the universe). Currently, we are not a part of the Inter-galactic League because we
are too unpredictable and primitive in nature and higher civilizations are afraid of us.” This
did not surprise me.
“Part of our destiny is to change the consciousness on planet Earth so that we can then lead
this galaxy as we evolve in an ever expanding universal consciousness.” All present agreed
this glorious future worth working toward.
Suddenly we heard trumpets rattling in the cabinet. Then someone said, “Look!” and pointed
to the top front of the cabinet. A murmur, then a cheer rose from the crowd as we saw a
materialized feminine arm and hand waving at us.
Susie laughed and asked, “Can you see how pale ectoplasm is?” Then she laughed again and
said she would try to manifest the fragrance of her favorite perfume upwind. She expressed
concern because the wind remained strong. Even though the cabinet faced north and the
wind blew south, we were able to smell her perfume, its delicate scent flowing against the
wind—a phenomenon in itself. We all applauded the success of the demonstration and
thanked her.
Next on the agenda, a drawing from the entrance tickets to the park. The winner would
receive an object that would be apported in the séance. The lucky number was announced,
but no one responded even when repeated. The person with the winning ticket had to be in
the park, or the ticket wouldn’t have been in the hat. To avoid any mistakes a second person
called the numbers. The medium waited in the cabinet to apport the gift. No answer, no
winner.
Susan said through Rev. Rhinehart, “There must be a reason no one responded to that
number, so we should draw another one.” I almost fainted when I heard the second numbers
called as I never win anything, but I did this time.
Susan told me to come to the cabinet and put my hand through a small slit in the cabinet. I
didn’t know what to expect. I became giddy. I felt something tickling the palm of my right
hand, then a slight prick. I pulled my hand out and saw a beautiful round brooch with pin open.
It had a circle of eighteen small white brilliant stones, a beautiful circle of light about two
inches in diameter. Still warm, it amazed me. Susan explained the first number didn’t answer
because the masters wanted me to have this apport, which symbolized my initiation into the
masters’ school of learning, and the circle formed a source of endless light for me. Then she
asked us to sing “God Bless America” to close the séance.
I started to cry and felt humbled to be recognized and honored by these great masters of
Light. My family and I will never forget that wondrous weekend on the slopes of Mount
Rainier with the masters and the fellowship of others. I pinned the brooch on my jacket and
left it on for the rest of the weekend. Everyone wanted to see it. This brooch is one of my
most prized apports.
